So I just discovered that one of the papers I thought was due next Wednesday is in fact due TOMORROW, and it is not the paper I have been focusing on. Thus, sadly, no TiLT today unless by some miracle I manage to finish the thing before midnight. Wish me speedy work, friends! I shall need it.

The name of the game for me this cold season is experimenting with layers! Layer, layer, layer. I walk a lot outside and the house I'm living in runs cold, I need to be warm! Not to mention the visual interest that goes along with layering.

I seem to be rather enamored of shorter skirts and dresses with tights - I therefore require more warm legwear. To this end, I am in the midst of a Sock Dreams order.

I'm also interested in creative scarf use - and not just the fuzzy ones. I've been tying thin, colorful scarves previously only used in warmer weather to my bag, which adds a nice pop of brightness. Other points include bright lipsticks (like the screaming pink I'm sporting today), bangle bracelets, pins, buttons, experimenting with color combinations, long necklaces, metallic nail polish, and long cardigans. I wish to find a good umbrella to upgrade my current one. (It was a gift from when I was in my black phase several years ago.)

Are you wearing anything new or special this season, whatever that means for wherever you may be? Talk style desires to me.

-We got papers back in history, and our prof wrote on mine that I had the best analysis in the class. Oh, this warm and fuzzy satisfied feeling.

-The research paper due date for that class has been pushed back from Friday to next Wednesday, to my lasting relief.

-As Andrew and I talked while we crossed the courtyard outside the student center, he remarked that I look like Carmen Sandiego today, and he didn't know why. Ah, glee.

-We went to see my brother perform in Twelfth Night on Friday evening, where he totally stole the show in a spectacularly hilarious performance. He loves drama, and it shows.

-Yesterday I stabbed popcorn balls, by which I mean I put them together to make snowmen. They're very cute.

-There is a phantom cotton candy smell up here. If it is someone's perfume, I must say that they smell totally lickable.

It's that Thursday time again. Stuff I'm loving!

-The zoo! Gosh, I hadn't been to the zoo in ages. I love it. I should hit up the aquarium and the Point Defiance Zoo next.
-Texting people silly things. Ahaha, the power of the text message.
-The Big Ben Twitter. Best Twitter account or best Twitter account?
-Lady Gaga. What the fuck, self. A-awesome?
-Via [info]gallo_de_pelea: Leigh Walton's Tintin sketchbook collects fan art from various comic artists.
-Ridiculous desserts. We got an ice cream volcano from the Rainforest Cafe, which was enormous and came with a sparkler in it.
-[info]gallo_de_pelea's products that ought to exist.
-Teavana. Hnnnnng.
-These black and white 'guess the movie' illustrations. Such awesome black and white balance.
-Apes that use sign language. (Also apes that use symbol keypads.) I want to go the Chimposium.
-The strange things I write when half asleep. I was very tired in math the other day, and the scribbles in my notebook margins from the sleepiest point read: 'orange bread~ ♥, drawing on calculator, purple & pink diagonally striped dress, flat jelly pumpkins, flying Memphis.'
-Fruit bats, math history, Spock, this firebendy thing, bright sweaters, roomba pacman, drawing Utena things as warmups, this 8-bit wedding invitation, The One Semester of Spanish Spanish Love Song, whiteboards in art, littlekuriboh's Yuugioh manga reviews, lists of books to look into, the men who stare at goatse, sextants, bright tights, lol Angel Sanctuary, fun research, very loud ties, ALL GLORY, bonobos, Lipstick Queen, alchemical processes and equipment, get excited and make things, FFXIII chocobos, plums deify!, carthago delenda est, drawing chocobos, this infographic of the ancient Hebrew conception of the universe, the word 'obstreperous,' ganmen, real calculators modeled after desktop calculators, don't bother Wonder Woman during her smoke break, ideas for fun Larxene drawings, butterfly headpieces.

Seriously, guys? You're pissed because [instructor] doesn't write exhaustive notes on the board? It's not his job to take notes for you. You are going to die in other classes.

Ugh, fucking running start students.

In cheerier news, I spent yesterday tromping around the zoo seeing the things I missed on Sunday and observing one of the gorillas for my anthro paper. (Calaya, for those interested; she's a juvenile female western lowland gorilla in one of the two groups at the Woodland Park Zoo.) It was a lovely day despite the place being swarmed with small children. Both of the tigers were out in the sun, both of the golden lion tamarins came down to say hi, the big hornbill was flying around its enclosure, both of the lions were out and one roared for us, the otters were playing, all of the penguins were in the water and kept swooping beside the glass (it was magical), the bears were out, the arctic fox was chillin' watching people, the snow leopard was out (though not her cubs), the jaguar was out, one of the wolves was visible, the colobus monkeys watched me go by, there was a peacock on one of the footpaths, it was all wonderful. I am thinking that maybe next year I should get a zoo membership, as I would be there all the time.

I've also had the thought that Kairi should learn magic from Lina in Adventures of Kairi, because holy crap awesome.

-Zoo trip part two tomorrow! I went on Sunday, but didn't have enough time for my primate observation. This time I'll also make better use of my camera and sketchbook.

-Man, the more I learn of higher math, the more the mathematical bits of xkcd start to make sense. I am also certain it is horrifically dorky of me to take an interest in the historical significance of things like logarithms for the singular purpose of how I could use it for Castlevania fic.

Badmouthing your professor when he is not even there because he's a little slow in returning your papers to you is not okay. Consider, if you will, that he is a human being, he has a life, his child was sick, his basement flooded, the papers are five pages long each, and he was also grading pages and pages of exams.

Dislike me if you wish for calling you out on it, but you were having a conversation in a public space with people you don't know. This isn't highschool.

November is fast approaching, and while I shall not be doing NaNo, I have given some thought to doing some other sort of month-long project. Sketch a day projects have been brought up by other people, which I think would be fun. [info]croaky mentioned potentially using November as a research month for personal works, which I also like. There are other permutations, easily found by a bit of poking around the internets.

As I was taking notes in class today, I kept distracting myself with thoughts on events that could potentially take place in the Adventures of Kairi, and a little while ago it occurred to me that huh. maybe I should use November to do research and sketch-a-day stuff for that. What are your thoughts, parties interested in gunner Kairi?

Warnings for this post being triggery. Do I even have to say this?

Did you know rape is a pre-existing condition? Now you do!

[info]naamah_darling's post, [info]rm's post. I recommend both of these. Don't miss the comments. There are lots of stories. (Domestic abuse is a pre-existing condition, too.) Here is an excerpt from [info]rm's post.

Here's the deal about health insurance and being female: Being female is effectively considered a disease by insurers, despite the fact that women have much longer life expectancies than men. Women are also dealt with as children who are incapable of making informed decisions about their own bodies; whether it's birth control, abortion or pregnancy-related services, insurers will tell you over and over again that they know better than you or your doctor.

All of this is so closely tied to the poisonous rape culture that is so prevalent in our society (if anyone tries to tell you it isn't, they don't know what they're fucking talking about) that the implied message, aside from "enjoy maybe getting AIDS, and also if you take anything for it we'll never cover you ever because you're not a real human being" is that "good girls don't get raped, and since you did, you don't deserve healthcare."

Hey! You humpers of syphilitic mules!

My having tits and a cunt does not make me diseased.

Placing the onus on women not to get raped (instead of, y'know, men not to rape) is something we are conditioned into - if a woman is raped, she must have been asking for it, or have done something wrong, or really truly actually wanted it, look at what she's wearing, the slut. The insurance shit makes it even more difficult for women to come forward and get the legal and medical help needed after sexual assault. We are, essentially, being punished for being female again, and that is also something that we have been living with every single fucking day of our lives. Lip service payed to equality doesn't change this, insurers saying "but it's on a case by case basis! really!" doesn't change this.

What is or is not a human being should not be defined by insurance companies decreeing who is or isn't a "good girl." Health care should not be denied on what amounts to a whim. "We aren't denying treatment, just benefits!" they say. That is a steaming pile of rotten monkey shit, I say, since if someone needs that insurance to pay for treatment then they aren't going to get it without no matter what these simpering dumbfucks assert.

My invisibility as a queer and childfree individual in the eyes of these companies is compounded by my being a woman: I am automatically a liability and a child because I possess two x chromosomes. I would dearly love to shove these stinking shitmuffins into tar pits, even though it wouldn't end this explosive, toxic clusterfuck.

This weekend contained some excellence, some hilarity, and a great deal of Italian and pseudo-Italian food. Highlights:

-Ordering delicious pizza on Friday. omnomnom olive oil and entire cloves of garlic and mushrooms and feta
-Staying in and making fun of Twilight on Saturday. The Rifftrax version of the film is lolarious (even moreso than the original itself, and THAT is great unintentional comedy), particularly for Benny Hill and YOU CAN TELL THEY'RE VAMPIRES BECAUSE THEY DRIVE LIKE THAT and "You're gonna watch me eat a pizza roll right now!!" and ~~twinkling noises~~.
-Italian delivery on Saturday night~ Please to be saving my baklava for me, [info]fraulein_karma. (The pasta as well if it will keep. And the pizza, aside from that.)
-Southcenter trip on Sunday! I love my new belt very, very much, yes I do.
-Cheesecake Factory! I had a cashew salad, which I ate very nearly the whole of. We split red velvet cheesecake (red velvet cake layered with cheesecake; curls of white chocolate crowning the frosting) for dessert.
-You guys, you guys, the sparklecock is even more hysterical in person.
-I got smacked with a nasty headache on Monday that put me out of commission for most of the day, unfortunately. I am still being cautious due to feeling the remaining vestiges of it. (I have as yet been unable to find my aspirin.)

Steamcon is next weekend, and Halloween the weekend after. I must construct some outfits and a Red Queen costume (as well as figure out the image simplification for a jack-o-lantern contest I wish to enter). I am rather looking forward to it.
